Fife Whisky Bottler scores hole-in-one with whisky sell-out
Here’s something that caught my eye recently – Saltire Rare Malt, who’ve been making quite a name for themselves as Scotland’s fastest-growing independent bottler, just had a complete sellout with their latest collaboration. They partnered with Falkland Golf Club for a rather special limited edition that’s worth talking about.
The bottling was a 14-year-old Linkwood, distilled back on 10th February 2011, and they kept it properly exclusive – just 60 bottles for the club’s 50th anniversary celebration. At £80 a pop and available only to members and select guests, it flew off the shelves almost instantly. You know how it is with these small-batch, story-driven releases – collectors and enthusiasts are always hunting for something with genuine provenance behind it.
What’s particularly interesting about this Speyside expression is the tasting profile. They’re describing sweet and fruity notes leading with strawberry candies, then shifting into cigar box territory with sugar-coated oranges and cotton candy. Bottled at a robust 54.1% ABV, so there’s plenty of character there to work with.
Keith Rennie, one of the founders, seems genuinely chuffed with how it turned out. He mentioned they knew they had something special from the moment they sampled the cask, and the community response has clearly validated that instinct. The club’s even serving it by the dram now, which is smart – gives more members a chance to experience it while the bottles last.
What’s clever about Saltire’s approach is this sports club angle they’re working. The Fife-based outfit is actively seeking out more partnerships with golf and sports clubs globally, offering bespoke commissioning services. It’s a nice niche that taps into the storytelling aspect of whisky while building genuine community connections.
You can find their main collection online at saltireraremalt.com if you’re interested in what else they’re up to, and they’re apparently open to commission enquiries for anyone looking to create their own limited edition.
