Aberdeen Airport launches exclusive FABLE Whisky to mark Off…

By on

Aberdeen’s got itself a proper airport exclusive, and it’s one that actually sounds worth picking up. FABLE Whisky has teamed up with Aberdeen International Airport and Avolta to create the Aberdeen Edition Batch One – a limited run of just 240 bottles that’s part of their “Great Cities” series.

What we’re looking at here is a blended malt that’s been given some thought. They’ve taken single malts matured for a minimum of 8 years in ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads, then bottled it at 46.5% ABV without chill filtration and keeping the natural colour intact. That’s ticking the right boxes for anyone who cares about how their whisky’s been treated.

The tasting notes suggest something quite approachable – freshly baked pastries and raisins on the nose, moving into mashed bananas and molasses with baking spices on the palate, then finishing with lingering spice and fresh orange peel. Sounds like it’s leaning into that sweet and spiced profile that works well for both newcomers and seasoned drinkers.

The bottle itself features artwork by Hugo Cuellar, a Bolivian-born, London-based illustrator who’s captured Aberdeen’s urban character – apparently blending the city’s industrial heritage with some imaginative flourishes.

The timing’s tied to Offshore Europe, celebrating Aberdeen’s role in the energy sector, which makes sense given the city’s significance in that world. Robert Paterson from the airport talks about offering passengers “unique, locally inspired experiences,” while FABLE’s Calum Lawrie points out they’re just a stone’s throw from Speyside here.

At £39.99, it’s positioned as an accessible airport exclusive rather than a premium collector’s piece. For travellers passing through Aberdeen, it’s a decent way to take a bit of the city’s character with you – assuming you can snag one of those 240 bottles.
