Benromach Distillery unveils new warehouses in major expansi…
Gordon & MacPhail has just wrapped up a significant warehouse expansion at Benromach Distillery, and it’s the kind of forward-thinking investment that shows they’re serious about the long game. The family-owned outfit has added three new warehouses as part of their first phase expansion, with Warehouse 10 being the crown jewel – a 472m² racked facility that’ll house around 9,000 casks and bump up their maturation capacity by over 25%.
What’s particularly satisfying about this project is the local partnership approach. They’ve worked with Robertson Construction Northern, another family business, which speaks to that community-rooted ethos that still matters in our industry. This expanded capacity isn’t just for Benromach either – they’ll be maturing new-make from The Cairn Distillery here too, which makes perfect sense given Gordon & MacPhail’s broader portfolio strategy.
Jade Crotty from Gordon & MacPhail hit the nail on the head when she talked about thinking generations ahead. That’s exactly the mindset you need when you’re dealing with a product that takes decades to reach its potential. The fact they’re simultaneously refurbishing their spiritual home on South Street in Elgin – creating what they’re calling a “world-class visitor experience” – shows they understand the heritage tourism side is just as crucial as the production capacity.
It’s worth noting they’ve opened a temporary shop at Johnstons of Elgin while the South Street work continues, keeping that vital connection with visitors alive. Smart move, really – continuity of service while investing in the future. This kind of infrastructure development is exactly what the industry needs to keep pace with global demand while maintaining those essential Scottish roots.
