Old Perth launches rare limited edition Bodega expression
Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers is throwing their hat into the ring with something rather special – a limited edition Bodega Cask Matured Blended Malt that’s joining the Old Perth stable. This one’s all about celebrating their sherry credentials, and frankly, it sounds like they’ve pulled out all the stops.
What we’re looking at here is a 52.4% ABV expression that’ll hit UK shelves on September 4th at £52 RRP through specialist retailers, before making its way to international markets. The catch? Only 1,200 bottles worldwide, so this isn’t hanging around.
The interesting bit is the composition – they’ve married single malts that have been fully matured in Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, and Palo Cortado sherry casks, then combined them with whisky from Old Perth’s 70-year-old solera vats. That’s some serious provenance right there, and those solera vats are the kind of heritage that money can’t buy.
According to Graeme Mackeddie, MSWD’s head of production, this release is meant to showcase Old Perth’s DNA – tradition-driven, exceptional cask work, and that signature bold-yet-balanced approach they’re known for. He’s positioning this squarely at whisky lovers who appreciate the craft of vatting big, sherry-matured malts.
The tasting profile they’re describing sounds properly indulgent: spiced oak and orange zest on the nose alongside rich treacle and dark fruits, moving into silky sweetness and refined nuttiness on the palate, before finishing long with smooth milk chocolate notes.
It’s clearly designed as a celebration of everything Old Perth represents – their sherry heritage and long-standing traditions all wrapped up in one limited release. Whether it lives up to the billing at that price point will be the real test, but the specs certainly suggest they’re serious about this one.
